Wales’ Chief Medical Officer threatens to reintroduce strict Covid restrictions

The Chief Medical Officer for Wales, Dr Frank Atherton said today that he is “disappointed” that many people have stopped wearing face coverings and social distancing, as cases increase.

He told BBC Radio Wales this afternoon: “This is how the virus is spreading,” he explained: “Unless we as a society organise ourselves in a way that we follow the guidance that we know will stop transmission of the virus then unfortunately more draconian measures and legislative requirements may need to be brought back in.”

The latest review of Wales’ Covid guidelines is expected to be announced on Friday.
