UK to ‘throw everything at’ booster effort says care minister

The Care minister has said this morning that the UK’s target of offering booster jabs to all adults before 2022 is “very ambitious” but that the government and the NHS will “throw everything at it”.

Gillian Keegan, told Sky News earlier today that while the current efforts are “hard right now… Hopefully we’ll be through the other side of this quite quickly.”

She said 24 million people had already received their third Covid jab dose.

The MP for Chichester claimed that the government does not plan to introduce further Covid restrictions prior to 25 December, saying that that is up to individuals to “make a sensible choice for yourself” regarding seasonal gatherings.

Yesterday evening Chief Medical Office Professor Chris Whitty suggested that people ought to “deprioritise” certain social contacts as Covid cases soared to 78,610 yesterday.

Ms Keegan said she was “confident” schools could reopen on time in January as 12-15-year-olds are offered their second Covid vaccine dose.
