ONS figures show median salaries rose after pandemic dip

Figures released today by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) show that median weekly pay has risen by 4.3 per cent between April 2020 and April 2021.

It said median weekly pay for full-time employees was £611 in April 2021, and that those most impacted by the rise were younger employees, men and those in lower paid occupations, all groups who saw their average earnings dip during the pandemic.

Last week the National Institute of Economic and Social Research, Britain’s oldest independent economic research institute, has said inflation will surpass 4% next year. They claimed that short-term pressures, such as soaring energy bills, supply chain issues and worker shortages will increase consumer prices over the coming months.
