Energy crisis is ‘down to government policy and poor decision making’ say Labour

Speaking this morning to Trevor Phillips on Sunday, shadow Work and Pensions Secretary Jonathan Reynolds MP placed the blame for the energy crisis firmly at the government’s door.

Reynolds pointed to the cuts to the energy efficiency program in 2015 and the lack of progress in the nuclear and offshore wind programmes. “The choices that have been made in government have directly affected the cost of living crisis that we’re facing today”, Reynolds said.

And amid confusion over Labour policy concerning the nationalisation of the energy sector, Reynolds said “common ownership, public ownership will always be part of our plans for some industries”, but added Energy nationalisation is not the solution that “will find the way forward for the position people are in”.
