Sheryll Murray was first elected as the Conservative MP for South East Cornwall in 2010, being reelected in 2019 with a majority of 20,971.

The South East Cornwall constituency is a large and rural constituency which covers a large portion of the south Cornwall coast.  It includes the towns of Liskeard, Torpoint and Lostwithiel, along with the fishing town Looe and gateway to Cornwall Saltash.  This is an economically active seat where a number of the population commute to the Devon city of Plymouth to work.   This area of England was held by the Liberal Democrats between 1997 and 2010, but it has been more comfortable territory for the Conservatives in recent years, with the party winning the seat with majorities of between 15,000 and 20,000 in each of the last three General Elections.

Sheryll Murray was born in 1956 the village of Millbrook, South East Cornwall, where she went to school before continuing her secondary education at nearby Torpoint Comprehensive School.  She worked as a medical receptionist before being elected to Parliament.

Murray represented Rame on Cornwall County Council and represented her village on Caradon District Council until it was abolished in April 2009. She was the Leader of the Conservative Group from 2003 to 2007.  She was elected to Cornwall County Council between 2001 and 2005.

Murray was formerly married to a trawlerman who died at sea in accident in 2011. She is a passionate campaigner for the fishing industry at Westminster.

Murray supported Leave in the 2016 EU referendum, and backed Boris Johnson in the 2019 Conservative Party leadership election.  She had previously submitted a letter of no confidence in former Prime Minister, Theresa May.

Sheryll Murray is Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Cats; and Fisheries.  She is Vice Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Groups on Australia and New Zealand; Canada; the Channel Islands; the Commonwealth; Gibraltar; the Isle of Man; Norfolk Island; Oman; Pitcairn Islands; Qatar; San Marino; Beer; Dairy; Dark Skies; Greyhounds; Hospitality and Tourism; Marine Energy; Parkinson’s; the South West; and Swimming.

According to the Register of Members Interests, Murray currently employs her partner, as her Office Manager.
