Sarah Jones is‌ ‌the‌ Labour MP‌ ‌for‌ Croydon Central‌,‌ ‌having‌ ‌first‌ ‌been‌ ‌elected‌ ‌to‌ ‌Parliament‌ ‌in‌ 2017‌. Sarah was‌ ‌elected‌ ‌in‌ ‌the‌ ‌2019‌ ‌General‌ ‌Election‌ ‌with‌ ‌a‌ ‌majority‌ ‌of‌ 5,949 over‌ ‌the‌ ‌Conservative Party.‌ ‌
She currently serves as the shadow minister for industry and decarbonisation, having been appointed to the role in Keir Starmer’s September 2023 reshuffle.
Croydon Central contains a high proportion of young voters, and is home to a large Caribbean community. It includes the large New Addington estate. Historically it has been the most marginal of the three Croydon seats, with the one to the North being solidly Labour, and the one to the South being solidly Conservative.
Sarah Jones previously served as Shadow Minister of State for Police and the Fire Service from April 2020 to September 2023.
Born‌ ‌in 1972 Sarah Jones, grew up in Croydon, and read History ‌at‌ Durham University.
A former senior civil servant, Jones was a member of the team delivering the 2012 London Olympic and Paralympic Games. Prior to entering Parliament, she held various senior roles within the NHS and as Head of Campaigns at the housing charity Shelter.
Since being elected to Parliament she has campaigned around the issue of knife crime.
Sarah Jones is Vice Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community.
Jones is married with four children.
