Eddie Hughes is‌ ‌the‌ Conservative MP‌ ‌for Walsall North‌‌,‌ ‌having‌ ‌first‌ ‌been‌ ‌elected‌ ‌to‌ ‌Parliament‌ ‌in 2017‌. He was‌ ‌re-elected‌ ‌in‌ ‌the‌ ‌2019‌ ‌General‌ ‌Election‌ ‌with‌ ‌a‌ ‌majority‌ ‌of‌ 11,965 ‌over‌ ‌the Labour Party.‌
‌Walsall North is a relatively deprived seat in the West Midlands which had previously elected a Labour MP consistently between 1955 and 2017.  At 67.9%, Walsall was one of the highest ‘Leave’ voting areas in the country, in the 2016 EU referendum.
Eddie Hughes served as as Under Secretary of State for Rough Sleeping and Homelessness between 2021 and 2022. He stepped down from the government in September 2022. He previously served as an assistant government whip.
Born‌ in 1968‌, Eddie‌ Hughes studied civil engineering at the University of Glamorgan‌. He was previously deputy chief executive of a local charity which provided accommodation for young people.
Hughes supported Brexit in the 2016 EU referendum. He backed Dominic Raab, and then Boris Johnson in the 2019 Conservative Party leadership election.
He was a member of Walsall Borough Council between 1999 and 2017, and also served as Chairman of the Walsall Housing group.
He is married with two grown up children.
