Fletcher, Mark

Mark Fletcher is‌ ‌the‌ Conservative MP‌ ‌for‌ Bolsover, having‌ ‌first‌ ‌been‌ ‌elected‌ ‌to‌ ‌Parliament‌ ‌in 2019‌ defeating the sitting Labour MP, Dennis Skinner by a majority of 5,299.   Skinner had previously represented the seat for almost 50 years between 1970 and 2019.

The Bolsover constituency ‌is‌ ‌found‌ ‌within‌ ‌in the east of the‌ ‌county‌ ‌of Derbyshire‌ ‌and‌ ‌covers‌ Bolsover, Shirebrook and the surrounding area. A former mining area, whose demographics have changed over the last two decades, over 70% of the electorate of Bolsover voted to leave the European Union in the 2016 Brexit referendum. It was one of the most famous ‘Red Wall’ seats to fall to the Conservatives in 2019. Bolsover was represented before the Second World War by the Labour leader, Arthur Henderson.

Mark Fletcher was previously a PPS at the Department of Business, Energy, and Industrial Strategy but resigned in July 2022 in protest at Boris Johnson continuing to remain as prime minister.

Born in 1985, Mark Fletcher grew up in Doncaster.  He was‌ ‌educated‌ ‌at‌ Cambridge University, where he was elected President of the Cambridge University Students’ Union.

The grandson of a miner, Fletcher worked for the healthcare Company, Synergix Health before being elected to Parliament.

He is a member of the All Party Parliamentary Groups on Domestic Violence, Fracking.

Fletcher was a Brexit supporter who describes himself as being driven by his “working-class British values”.

Fletcher is openly gay and in a same sex marriage.  His mother died when he was a child.

Mark Fletcher is interested in wrestling.  He is the co Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Wrestling, and described wrestling as “the only industry that can rival politics for bravado, faux indignation and partisan crowds”.
