Aaron Bell was first elected as the Conservative MP for Newcastle under Lyme representing in 2019, gaining the seat from Labour with a majority of 7,446.
The Newcastle under Lyme constituency is found in the north west of Staffordshire, and includes the town of the same name an the villages of Keele and Audley. Found on the outskirts of Stoke on Trent, in the early Twentieth Century, this seat was represented at Westminster by the famous Stoke potter, Josiah Wedgwood. It includes Keele University. Having fallen short by just 30 votes in 2017, the Conservatives won this seat in 2019 for the first time since 1865.
Born in 1980, Aaron Bell was educated at Oxford University, and worked for Ladbrokes and Bet365 as a software architect, before co-founding the financial technology firm DivideBuy with two friends from his local cricket team.
The business was established in Burslem, and with venture capital finance expanded to employ over 40 people, moving to the Lymedale Business Park. According to the Register of Members Interests, in 2021, Bell remained a shareholder in Rematch Credit Ltd; the parent company of DivideBuy.
Bell was formerly a serial TV quiz programme contestant, having appeared on University Challenge, the Krypton Factory, and Deal or No Deal.
On Deal or No Deal he had 50p in his box, but convinced the banker to buy it for £25,000, money which he is said to have used for a house deposit.
Bell’s team lost in the final of University Challenge, but he had more luck on the Krypton factor where he was the series winner.
In early 2022 Aaron Bell confirmed that he had submitted a letter of no confidence calling on Boris Johnson to resign as Prime Minister.
Aaron is married with three children. He supported Brexit.
Bell is a humanist, and Vice Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Humanism.
