Westminster Hall debate on social care

On Thursday 24th November, MPs held a debate on the value of social care at the heart of local communities.

Conservative MP Damian Green put forward the debate.

He said: “I’m conscious that the social care debate is often one surrounded by crisis and difficulty, quite rightly. But there are so many positive aspects to it that I want to touch on them”.

Labour MP Liz Kendall also contributed. She said: “Put simply, social care is, or should be about, ensuring every older and disabled person can live an equal life to everybody else. That is its its intrinsic value. But I would go further. We all benefit when we have a decent social care system in this country, not just because we may all end up ultimately using or drawing it or relying on it because of our own parents and having to care and support them”.
