Streeting: ‘What is the point of this health secretary if he’s in office but not in charge?’

During health and social care department questions today, Labour spokesperson Wes Streeting asked the secretary of state Steve Barclay about the government’s engagement with trade unions on strikes.

Mr Streeting asked: “Despite a 98% vote in favour of strikes, the secretary of State was sent to meet junior doctors without a mandate from the prime minister to negotiate. What is the point of this health secretary if he’s in office but not in charge?”.
