PMQs: Conservative MP says UK must stop ‘bending the knee’ to ECHR

At prime minister’s questions today, Conservative MP Sarah Dines raised the case of the chemical attack in Clapham.

She attacked the European Court of Human Rights, saying the UK would not have been able to deport suspect Abdul Ezedi if he had been found guilty while a member of the court.

“When will we stop bending the knee to this so-called European court – this travesty of a court?”

Rishi Sunak responded: “I don’t think it’s right for dangerous foreign criminals to be able to stay in our country.

“And that’s why our Nationality and Borders Act made it clear that anyone who is convicted of a crime and gets a sentence of 12 months or more, will not be granted asylum in the United Kingdom.”
