New bill would allow UK to prosecute those responsible for ‘most heinous crimes’ regardless of connection to UK

The SNP MP Brendan O’Hara, today proposed a 10 minute rule bill which would allow the legal system in the UK to prosecute those responsible for the world’s “most heinous crimes”, such as genocide, without having to consider whether the accused person or the victim had any specific connection to the UK.

Introducing his bill, Mr O’Hara said: “In short, Mr. Speaker, this universal jurisdiction extension bill, as about saying to the world’s worst criminals that there is no hiding place and there will be no immunity”.
