Darren Jones concerned about AI’s interference with elections and democracy

During questions to the Department for Science and Technology, Labour MP Darren Jones raised concerns about the interference of artificial intelligence in elections.

He said that its ability to generate fake photos, videos and audio could be seriously detrimental to politics and to democracy, and asked the Secretary of State for reassurance that the government would regulate this.

Chloe Smith assured Jones that this would be a focus, and that the government White-paper already included risks as well as opportunities.
