Conservative MP accuses Jeremy Hunt of presiding over ‘quasi-socialist’ economy

During Treasury questions today Conservative MP Philip Davies accused the chancellor of presiding over a ‘quasi-socialist’ economy.

Mr Davies said: “I appreciate it’s largely as a result of the idiotic decision to lockdown the country and the economy for the best part of two years. [But] the Chancellor nevertheless finds himself presiding over a high tax, high spend, low growth, quasi socialist economy”.

Jeremy Hunt responded: “I thank him for the inimitable way that he asked the question, and I hope that he was reassured to some extent by the fact there was a £9 billion cut in the planned level of corporation tax in the budget”.
