Blackford basks in local election ‘democratic drubbing’

SNP leader Ian Blackford didn’t hesitate to bask in the SNP’s strong local election performance and highlight the Conservative Party’s struggles, despite telling the House of Commons that he “hates to rub salt in the wounds”.

Blackford followed a speech from Boris Johnson on the Queen’s Speech, but focused on the “democratic drubbing” that the Conservative party had received in Scotland.

Telling the House of Commons, “democracy has spoken” and “rejects the Tory party”, Blackford increased pressure on a prime minister under fire.
