Local elections – Greenpeace response

Commenting on the local election after results from 44 councils and the Tees Valley mayoral contest have come in, Mel Evans, Greenpeace UK’s head of climate, said:

“Looking at the results so far, it’s becoming clear that Sunak’s climate rollbacks and reckless push for more oil drilling have done less than nothing for his chances of re-election. Opposition parties with stronger climate policies are on track to make significant gains, and the rare bright spot for the Conservatives has come from the re-election of the Tees Valley mayor, who has been a vocal supporter of climate action and green jobs. The overwhelming majority of the British public backs climate action and those political leaders who can seize the economic opportunity of the century and bring its many benefits to their communities.”
