Centre for London response to energy price cap fall

Responding to Ofgem’s announcement of a price drop for the energy price guarantee, Nick Bowes, Chief Executive, Centre for London said:

“The falling price cap will provide little consolation for Londoners facing further rises in their energy bill costs from April, when the government’s support for households is due to be cut.

Our latest polling with Savanta ComRes has shown that 56% of Londoners already find their energy bills unaffordable. For many of these people, a further rise in how much it costs to heat your own home will simply lead to people going cold, or cutbacks on essentials like food in order to get by.

The government should recognise the increased cost of housing and energy costs in London, and continue providing targeted support to those most in need, to prevent a cliff-edge for energy affordability in April.”
