Boris Johnson’s replacement named

Boris Johnson’s replacement as Shadow Minster for the Arts has been named as Devon East MP Hugo Swire, Conservative leader Michael Howard has announced.

Mr Swire, 44, moves from the Whips’ Office where he has been since November 2003.

Michael Howard sacked the colourful Mr Johnson at the weekend because he was not satisfied with answers the MP for Henley gave him over newspaper reports he had an affair with a colleague at the Spectator.

The Conservative leader announced a number of other changes arising from Mr Johnson’s sacking.

Mark Prisk moves to the Whip’s Office from the Economic Affairs team, whilst Robert Key joins the Front Bench to cover science as pat of both the Environment and Transport and Economic Affairs teams.

Tim Boswell moves from the Home Affairs team to join the Work and Pensions team.
