PM ‘welcomes’ US-China emissions deal
The prime minister has welcomed an unexpected climate pledge agreed between the US and China.
The deal pledges to introduce “concrete and pragmatic” guidelines in decarbonisation, decreasing methane emissions and tackling deforestation.
The two countries will begin a working group to outline the agreement’s details.
The prime minister said via Twitter this morning:
I welcome the strong show of commitment from China and the US last night to step up climate action this decade and keep 1.5C in reach.
This is a boost to negotiations as we go into the final days of @COP26 and continue working to deliver an ambitious outcome for the planet.
