ONS – Record 1.4 million people had Covid-19 in one week

A record 1.4 million people in the UK had Covid-19 in a single week, according to the Office for National Statistics.

In the week ending December 16th, one in 45 people in England were had Covid-19, which accounts for around 1.2 million people.

one in 50 people were testing positive for Covid-19 in Northern Ireland; one in 55 people in Wales; and one in 70 people in Scotland.

The highest regional proportion of cases were found in London, where a staggering one in 30 people were likely to test positive.

Recent data coming out of South Africa has raised hopes that the Omicron wave will not be as severe as first feared.
