Ex-head of Covid taskforce apologies for lockdown-defying leaving party

The erstwhile head of the government’s Covid response unit has this afternoon apologised for hosting a leaving party in the lead up to Christmas 2020.

Kate Josephs, who headed up the team responsible for recommending the government’s Covid restrictions has admitted to hosting a  a “boozy” leaving party under lockdown.

According to reports from the Telegraph newspaper, “dozens” of Cabinet Office officials from the taskforce attended the event Dec 17 2020 event while such gatherings were explicitly banned.

It is alleged that the event took place at the taskforce’s  70 Whitehall office in honour of Kate Josephs’ departure as director-general.
