Accurate Ukrainian refugee figures to be published this evening, says home secretary

The home secretary has said that accurate Ukrainian refugee figures to be published this evening.

She told MPs that the inaugural “quality-assured figures” on the Ukrainian Families Scheme since its launch last week will be published later today.

She rejected claims that “around 50” visas had been issued through the scheme, complaining that such reports are “absolutely inaccurate and [they have] not been assured by the Home Office”, she said.

“I do want to just make that abundantly clear. It is absolutely right to say our scheme is the first of its kind in the world, and we cannot measure it against any other country’s.”

Patel went on to say that over 14,000 applications had already been received, and that the sponsorship scheme would be explained today.
