Anthony Browne is the Conservative MP for South Cambridgeshire, having first been elected to Parliament in the 2019 general election with a majority of 2,904 over the Liberal Democrats.
The constituency of South Cambridgeshire spreads south and west from the city of Cambridge. It includes a small part of Cambridge itself, include the city’s Addenbrooke’s Hospital. However in the main it is largely rural seat that includes the small settlements of Cambourne, Cottenham, and Sawston. Following the M11, Duxford airfield can also be found here.  Employment data shows this to be one of the most economically active areas in England. The Liberal Democrats have traditionally polled well in this area, and it remains one of their target seats.
Born in 1967, Anthony Browne was educated at Cambridge University. A former journalist, he was once the chief political correspondent for the Times newspaper. He also worked for the BBC and the Observer. Since becoming an MP, he has continued to write for the Spectator magazine.
He later served as the Chief Executive of the British Bankers’ Association, before being elected to Parliament. The Register of Members Interests has shown him to have shareholders in the financial services software firms, Audit XPRT Ltd and Coconut Platform Ltd.
Close to the Prime Minister, Browne was Policy Director for Economic Development during Boris Johnson’s time as Mayor of London. Browne was also previously a Director of the Think Tank, Policy Exchange.
Interested in the environment, in 2020 he became Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on the Environment. He is a member of the All Party Parliamentary Groups on Chalk Streams, Canada, and Life Sciences.
Browne is married with two children.
