Chris Grayling MP: ‘There are no reasons’ for marine trawling

Conservative MP Chris Grayling outlined the benefits of his bill to ban bottom trawling with fishing nets in marine protected areas to the House in a ten minute rule bill, telling MPs “there are no reasons” why it should be allowed.

Grayling explained how the bill would “protect habitats beneath our seas” from nets that “destroy mud of what is in their path”.

The MP for Epsom and Ewell told the House that this was a “good step by the government” and that it demonstrates one of the benefits of not being “tied down” by the EU’s common fisheries policy.
