Fiona Bruce was first elected as Conservative MP for Congleton in 2010, being reelected with a majority of 18,591 in 2019.
The constituency of Congleton covers a rural area in the south the east of Cheshire and contains the towns of Sandbach, Congleton, Middlewich and Alsager, running down close to the edge of Stoke on Trent in neighbouring Staffordshire. The seat has been a safe Conservative constituency ever since it was created in 1983. Born in 1957, Fiona Bruce was educated at Manchester University. A former winner of the Business Woman of the Year Award “Women into Business”, she set up her own Community Law Firm Fiona Bruce & Co LLP, based in Cheshire. According to the Register of Members Interests, she still works at the firm.
Bruce was a member of Warrington Borough Councillor between 2004 and 2010.
Bruce supported Brexit, and backed Sajid Javid in the 2019 Conservative Party leadership election.
Bruce is an evangelical Christian. She is hostile to abortion, and Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Pro-Life.
She has been an opponent of HS2.
She is also Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Groups on Eritrea; North Korea. She is Vice Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Groups on Twelve Steps Recovery Programme for Addiction; Commercial Sexual Exploitation; Dying Well; Faith and Society; and International Freedom of Religion or Belief;
She is married to Richard; they have two sons.
