Anas Sarwar

Biography

Anas Sarwar was elected as Labour MP for Glasgow Central on May 6th 2010 with a majority of 10,551.

Anas was born and brought up in Glasgow and is the youngest of four siblings.

He studied at Glasgow University and works as an NHS dentist. He lives in the city with his wife Furheen.

Anas has been an active member of the Labour Party since the age of 16, and was the No.1 Glasgow Regional List candidate at the recent Scottish elections. He was also a member of the Party's Scottish Policy Forum.

He is the founder and co-ordinator of Y-Vote, a new political platform for young people which uses a mix of music and political education to engage young people into the political process.

Y-Vote held their first major event at the Carling Academy on March 29th 2007.

On the 10th September 2007 Anas was selected to be Labour's candidate for Glasgow Central at the 2010 General Election.

He is a member of the International Development select committee.
