Unison: Health bill 'should be dumped'

Wednesday, 13 April 2011 12:00 AM

Christina McAnea, Unison head of health, commented on Andrew Lansley's decision not to address the RCN conference:

"Andrew Lansley may have dodged the RCN conference, but he cannot hide from the anger of NHS staff. He must face up to the consequences of his health and social care bill - that means listening first hand to the serious concerns of all health workers.

"I am inviting Mr Lansley, along with Cameron and Clegg, to come and listen to Unison health members, and prove that the listening exercise is more than just PR puff.

"Pausing and listening is one thing, but actions speak louder than words. The NHS and its staff have always adapted to change, but this bill is not change, it is a demolition job that will break up the NHS as we know it. There is no point in tinkering around the edges of a bill that is fundamentally flawed and should be dumped."
