‘Boycott China Winter Olympics over human rights abuses’

The director of the SOAS China Institute is calling for a boycott of the Winter Olympics to tackle human rights abuses in Xinjiang.

China is under increasing international criticism for its policy in Xinjiang, including the large-scale detention and torture of Uighur Muslims in the region.

Professor Steve Tsang says that the Winter Olympics is “incredibly important” to Xi Jinping and a boycott would send a clear message to China’s leader.
