Why do people lie about their class background?

Brits like to see themselves as having worked hard to achieve their success in life, rather than benefitting from structural class privilege.

A new study showed that many people in typically middle-class professions still view themselves as working class, due to their family’s history.

With many of these industries still inaccessible to people from a working-class background, what does this mean for working-class people?
