Wendy Morton was first elected as the Conservative MP for Aldridge-Brownhills in 2015, being reelected in 2019 with a majority of 19,836.

The constituency of Aldridge Brownhills is located in the West Midlands to the north of Walsall.  The seat contains the affluent Walsall suburb of Aldridge and the former mining town of Brownhills.   This area of the country has been represented by the Conservative Party ever sine 1979, and it has historically been one of the safest Conservative seats in the West Midlands.    In 2019 the Conservatives won this seat with one of its highest shares of the vote in the country at some 70.8%.  A high 68% of the electorate backed Brexit in the 2016 EU referendum.

Wendy Morton was appointed Chief Whip by Liz Truss n September 2022, but she only held the role for one month.  She left the government upon Rishi Sunak becoming prime minister in October 2022.

Morton previously served as the Minister of State for Transport.  She previously served as Under Secretary of State at the Foreign Office between 2020 and 2021, having previously served as Under Secretary of State for Justice between 2019 and 2020.  She was previously an assistant government whip.

Born in 1967, Morton is the daughter of a Yorkshire farmer from Wensleydale.  She attended the Open University.

Prior to being elected to Parliament, Morton worked in the Diplomatic Service as well as pursuing a career in sales.  She also co founded her own electronics design and manufacturing company, DM Electronics Ltd, in which she remains a shareholder according to the Register of Members Interests.

She was elected to Richmondshire District Council between 2001 and 2006.

At Westminster, Morton has previously successfully steered two Private Members Bills through Parliament.

Her NHS (Charitable Trusts etc.) Act 2016 ensures that Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity retains the royalties to J.M. Barrie’s play Peter Pan.

Her second Bill, The ‘Local Audit (Public Access to Documents) Act 2017’ gives journalists the opportunity to examine public documents ensuring that there are greater levels of transparency and open government.

Morton supported Remain in the 2016 EU referendum.  She backed Jeremy Hunt in the 2019 Conservative Party leadership election.

Morton lists her interests as canal boating and collecting art deco ceramics.
