Matt Vickers is‌ ‌the‌ Conservative MP‌ ‌for Stockton South ‌,‌ ‌having‌ ‌first‌ ‌been‌ ‌elected‌ ‌to‌ ‌Parliament‌ ‌in 2019‌, gaining the seat off the Labour Party with‌ ‌a‌ ‌majority‌ ‌of‌ 5,260.‌ ‌
The Stockton South constituency is‌ ‌found‌ ‌within‌ ‌the‌ ‌county‌ ‌of‌ Cleveland ‌and‌ ‌covers the suburbs of Stockton on Tees and the towns of Thornaby on Tees, Yarm, Ingleby Barwick and Eaglescliffe‌. It has long been a swing marginal constituency and is considered the most affluent of the various Teeside constituencies.
Born‌ ‌in Stockton in 1983, Matt Vickers studied law and business management at Teeside University. Local to the area, he ‌has had a number of jobs with his website proudly detailing how he has ‘stacked shelves, pulled pints, and laid bricks in Stockton South’.
Vickers sat on Stockton on Tees Borough Council between 2015 and 2021.
Transferring to politics, he worked as the Conservative Party’s local agent in Richmond for almost a decade, where William Hague and then Rishi Sunak served as the local MP.
Vickers was said to have been physically assaulted when canvassing in Ingleby Barwick during the 2019 General Election.
At Westminster he is Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Groups on British Bioethanol, and the Future of Retail, and a member of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Loneliness.
