Angela Richardson is the Conservative MP for Guildford, having first been elected to Parliament in the 2019 general election with a majority of 3,337 over the Liberal Democrats.
The cathedral city of Guildford lies at the heart of this constituency, which contains the surrounding countryside and the University of Surrey. An affluent constituency with a large number of professional employees and a fast commuter line to London, 58.8% of people here supported Remain in the 2016 Brexit referendum. The seat is traditionally a tight fought Lib Dem and Conservative marginal. It was briefly held by the Liberal Democrats between 2001 and 2005.
Born in West Auckland, New Zealand, in 1974, Angela Richardson went to school with Simon Bridges, himself the leader of the New Zealand Conservative Party between 2018 and 2020.  She is a member of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Australia and New Zealand.
Having moved to the UK, she previously worked in investment banking for Axa and Schroders, before being elected to Parliament in 2019.
Richardson was the first to resign from the government’s so called ‘payroll vote’ because of ‘partygate’ affair. Quitting her position as PPS to Michael Gove, she cited her ‘deep disappointment’ in Boris Johnson.
Angela Richardson lives in Ewhurst, Surrey with her three children. She has been a campaigner for early intervention and investment into Special Educational Needs particularly in relation to autism.
She supported Leave in the 2016 EU referendum.
She is a member of the All Party Parliamentary Group on the South Western Railway.
