Bone, Peter

Peter Bone was first elected as the Conservative MP for Wellingborough in 2005, being reelected in 2019 with a majority of 18,540.  He was subject to a successful recall position in December 2023 after being suspended from the House of Commons.

The constituency of Wellingborough is found on the southern side of Northamptonshire and includes  the towns of Rushden, High Ferrers,  Irchester, and Wellingborough.  Wellingborough itself contains a notable Romanian community.  Although the seat currently has a sizeable Conservative majority, it has in the past been won by Labour, notably in the party’s better years such as 1966, 1997, and 2001.

A Boris Johnson loyality, Peter Bone served as Deputy Leader of the House of Commons between July and September 2022.

Peter Bone was born in Billericay, Essex, in 1952 and was educated at Westcliff-on-Sea Grammar School.

In 1977, Peter qualified as a Chartered Accountant and has run both a public company and a family business. According to the Register of Members Interests, he is the owner of PWB Accountants.

Bone is considered to be on the right of the Conservative Party and supported Leave in the 2016 Brexit referendum.  He was the most vocal Conservative critics of David Cameron’s coalition with the Liberal Democrats.

Bone is socially conservative and opposed same sex marriage.  In 2016 he brought forward a Private Members Bill calling for the privatisation of the BBC.

He backed Boris Johnson in the 2019 Conservative leadership election.

A keen sportsman, Bone enjoys cricket and is a member of Wellingborough Golf Club.  He is an active member of the Church of England.

Peter Bone is Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on American Football.  He is  Vice Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Groups on Alevis; Baseball and Softball; Esports; and Netball.
