Morrissey, Joy

Joy Morrissey is‌ ‌the‌ Conservative ‌MP‌ ‌for‌ Beaconsfield‌,‌ ‌having‌ ‌first‌ ‌been‌ ‌elected‌ ‌to‌ ‌Parliament‌ ‌in‌ 2019.

Found close to the junction of the M25 and M40 motorways to the south of Buckinghamshire, Beaconsfield is one of the most affluent areas in the United Kingdom, and includes the towns of Beaconsfield itself, Marlow, and a number of villages near the River Thames.  The area is affected by the HS2 rail development.  It would also be impacted by the expansion of Heathrow airport.

Beaconsfield is a historically safe Conservative seat. In 2019 Joy Morrissey defeated the former Conservative MP, Dominic Grieve who was standing as an independent having fallen out with the Johnson government over Brexit.  Morrissey won with a healthy majority of‌ 15,712.

Morrissey was appointed an Assistant Government Whip in July 2022.  She previously served as one of four Parliamentary Private Secretaries to Boris Johnson.

Born‌ ‌in 1981, Joy Morrissey grew up in Ohio in America before moving to the UK, and studying at the London School of Economics.

Having moved to the UK in her twenties, Morrissey later worked for the Centre for Social Justice, and as a parliamentary researcher at Westminster. She previously had a brief career in acting and films.

She served as a councillor on Ealing borough council between 2014 and 2019, and unsuccessfully tried to secure the Conservative nomination for the London mayoral elections in 2018.

A supporter of Brexit, she describes herself as a One Nation Conservative.   Morrissey is a member of the All Party Parliamentary Groups on British Sikhs, and Taxation.
