Kitchen, Genevieve

Genevieve Kitchen was elected as the Labour MP for Wellingborough in a February 2024 by-election following a successful recall petition against the former Conservative MP Peter Bone who had been suspended from the Commons following claims of bullying and sexual harassment.

In gaining the seat for Labour, Kitchen was returned with a majority of 6,436, having overturned a Conservative majority of 18,540 from the 2019 general election.

The constituency of Wellingborough is found on the southern side of Northamptonshire and includes  the towns of Rushden, High Ferrers,  Irchester, and Wellingborough.  Wellingborough itself contains a notable Romanian community.  Although the seat currently has a sizeable Conservative majority, it has in the past been won by Labour, notably in the party’s better years such as 1966, 1997, and 2001.

Prior to being elected to Westminster, Genevieve Kitchen worked as a philanthropy manager at a children’s health charity, and was the former head of fundraising at a Children’s Hospice.

Kitchen served on Newham Council in London between 2018 and 2022. She Studied History and Politics at Queen Mary University in London between 2013 and 2016. She also previously served as a trustee of London City Airport’s Community Fund.

She was born in 1996 and grew up in Northamptonshire.
