Brady, Graham

Graham Brady was first elected as the Conservative MP for Altrincham and Sale West in 1997, having been reelected in 2019 with a majority of 6,139.

He has been the long standing Chairman of the 1922 Committee of Conservative backbench MPs since 2010.  He was briefly a candidate for the Conservative leadership in 2019, but failed to muster sufficient support to make it to the ballot.

Graham was born in Salford in 1967. He was educated at Altrincham Grammar School and Durham University where he studied law. Prior to his election in 1997 when he became the youngest Conservative MP at that time, he was Public Affairs Director of the Waterfront Partnership. He had previously worked at the Centre for Policy Studies and Shandwick Plc. Graham is married to Victoria whom he met at university and they have a daughter and a son.

Graham enjoys gardening.  He is married with two children.

Graham first became involved with the Conservative party when, aged 16, he joined the campaign to save the local grammar schools. He was Chairman of Durham University Conservative Association (1987-1988); Chairman of Northern Area Conservative Students (1987-1989); a member of the Conservative Party’s National Union Executive Committee (1988-1989); Vice-Chairman of East Berkshire Conservative Association (1993-1995).
