Craig Williams was first elected to Parliament as the Conservative MP for Cardiff North between 2015 and 2017, being reelected in 2019 for his home town seat of Montgomeryshire, with a majority of 12,138.
The constituency of Montgomeryshire is found on the eastern side of Wales along the border with England. It is a large rural constituency in mid Wales that contains the towns of Welshpool and Newtown. In previous years the Boundary Commission have suggested this small constituency in terms of population should be merged with a number of its rural neighbours. It is currently the safest Conservative seat in Wales, although prior to 2010 it had a tradition of being a long standing Liberal Democrat constituency.
Craig William was previously a PPS at the Treasury but resigned in July 2022 in protest at Boris Johnson continuing to remain as prime minister.
Born in 1985, Craig Williams grew up in Welshpool where he studied at Welshpool High School. He was educated at Birmingham University.
Prior to being elected to Parliament in 2015 he worked in the National Assembly for Wales, and ran his own consultancy. He previously served on Cardiff City Council.
On the day Boris and Rishi Sunak received a police fine, he tweeted that he ‘would continue to fully support them both in the important work that they are doing’.
Between 2017 and 2019 he served as Special Advisor to the Brexit Secretary, Steven Barclay.
Craig Williams is the Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Groups on Eggs, Pigs and Poultry; and International Trade and Investment; Wales and the World; and Pigeon Racing. He is the Vice Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Groups on Beer; Devolution; Energy Security; Rugby Union; and Waterways; Wine; Japan
