Cash, William

William (Bill) Cash was first elected to Parliament as a Conservative MP in 1984, being reelected in 2019 for the constituency of Stone in Staffordshire with a majority of 19,945. Cash was Member of Parliament for Stafford from 1984 until 1997.

The constituency of Stone is a large rural seat that contains the western section of Staffordshire including the communities of Oulton, Church Eaton, Cheadle, and Forsbrook.  This area of the UK is safe Conservative territory and has been held by the party ever since the end of the First World War.

Largely a backbencher throughout his almost 40 years in Parliament, from 2001 to 2003, Bill Cash served as Shadow Attorney General.

Bill Cash was born in 1940. He was educated at Stonyhurst College, and Lincoln College, Oxford.  He is a qualified solicitor, and has his own practice in London – William Cash and Co.

He has campaigned against federalism in Europe all his political life, and unsurprisingly supported Leave in the 2016 EU referendum.

He has also campaigned for the reduction of red tape and co-ordination of government activity relating to small businesses.  He once drafted the Small Businesses Bill, and has introduced The Protection of Shareholders Bill 1987. He has promoted competitive sport in schools.

He was the first MP to put down an EDM in 1984 drawing attention to HIV and AIDS.

He is married with two sons and a daughter.  He employs his wife as a Parliamentary Assistant.
