Starmer notes that the average house deposit is now the same as the PM’s annual swimming pool-heating bill

During Prime Minister’s questions, Keir Starmer pressed the Prime Minister on mortgage rates, which have recently increased.

He said that these rates were making home ownership impossible for many people and that the Prime Minister failed to take this issue seriously. He then went on to note that the average first time home buyer would need a £9000 deposit.

“That is roughly the same as his annual swimming pool heating bill”, said Starmer.
