Civil servants plan Tory government

Civil servants are holding meetings with key Conservatives figures to map out a future government, sources indicate.

The meetings have so far been informal but Tory entitlement to full formal cooperation from the civil service begins in January.

It appears many inside Whitehall consider a Conservative win at the next general election inevitable, however.

Members of the shadow Cabinet have met with officials to ensure a transition is handled properly.

The Tories are maintaining a lead of 20 per cent in the opinion polls.

Today’s politics.co.uk poll shows most respondents back David Cameron over any potential contenders in the Labour party, including David Miliband.
