Stansted improves security efficiency

Stansted Airport has unveiled improvements to its Security Search area in time for this weekend’s busy bank holiday getaway.

The new designs will assist passengers through the process of checking in and boarding their flights and maintain high security standards.

The system is the largest of any European airport and the improvements will enable Stansted to clear up to 4,500 passengers per hour at peak times.

Among the improvements is a larger search area housing 14 x-ray machines, as well as extended roller-beds, allowing hand luggage to be prepared for screening before it reaches the machines.

The Central Search area will also be opened earlier in order to cater for the increasing volume of traffic.

Security service delivery manager for BAA Stansted, Dave Jeffcott said:”People travelling through Stansted will now experience a faster flowing Central Search, earlier engagement with security staff and reduced queuing times that will improve their overall flying experience.”
