Olympic team return in sombre mood

The victorious London Olympic bid team has returned to England in sombre mood as all celebrations have been cancelled following yesterday’s terror attacks in the capital.

Seb Coe and his colleagues were due to return to Heathrow for a victory party after the International Olympic Committee (IOC) chose London as the host venue for the 2012 games on Wednesday.

“The entire London 2012 team are shocked and deeply saddened by today’s tragic events in London. Our thoughts are with the families of the bereaved and all those who have been injured in these despicable terrorist attacks,” Lord Coe said last night.

Yesterday, newly appointed Olympics minister Tessa Jowell confirmed the planned party to hail the coming of the games to Britain has been postponed, saying it would have been “completely inappropriate”.

The IOC has confirmed that the explosions will not jeopardise London’s hosting of the games and has expressed its sympathy for those affected.
