BNP qualifies for election broadcast

The British National Party has qualified for a party political broadcast and a free election mailshot after fielding 112 candidates in the general election.

Television companies will show the five-minute film, which is expected to be aired on Thursday, unless it breaches libel or race-hate laws.

But the BNP says its is encountering problems in getting the broadcast ready on time after being told by the BBC that there were ‘technical problems’ with its video and audio tracks, and claims Channel 4 told them to ‘censor’ the film. The party says that people in the media are “desperate” to stop the film being shown.

A BNP broadcast was shown before last year’s European elections after being edited to comply with race hate laws.
