Conservatives to cut excise duty for low pollution cars

The Conservatives will cut Vehicle Excise Duty for low pollution cars, the party said today.

Under the plans, duty for the least polluting AAA band would be cut from £65 to zero, and for band AA it would be reduced from £75 to £10. Smaller cuts of £20, £15, and £10 would be implemented for vehicles in Bands A, B, and C respectively.

Shadow Environment Secretary Tim Yeo said: “Tony Blair’s Government has waged a war on the motorist. That policy has failed and emissions from the transport sector are the fastest growing source of pollution.

“Conservatives will take action. We will send a strong signal to the market and encourage British motorists to make greener choices. The last Conservative Government introduced differentials on fuel duties to make green fuels cheaper. The next Conservative Government will make the least polluting cars cheaper to own.”
