Leading Conservative politicians are today hosting a youth crime summit to discuss how to protect young people from crime.

Key issues on the table include how to prevent young people becoming involved with crime, how to tackle those young people who do become involved with crime and how to prevent children becoming victims of crime.

Hosted by Shadow Home Secretary David Davis, representatives of the police, prison service and voluntary groups have all been invited.

Speakers will include Brian Paddick, Assistant Deputy Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police, and Sir David Ramsbotham the former Chief Inspector of Prisons.

Commenting in advance of Tuesday’s summit, Mr Davis, said: “Young people are now twice as likely to be victims of crime as adults and numerous surveys have documented how the fear of crime is a significant worry in their lives. There is no starker demonstration of this Government’s overall failure on crime that young people, who should be concerned with activities like studying and going out with friends, live in fear of being robbed or attacked.

“This summit will allow us to discuss the key issues on protecting young people from crime. We look forward to listening to what all the speakers have to say.”
