12 die in Belgium bus crash

At least 12 people have been killed and 37 injured after a bus careered off the road and burst into flames in southern Belgium on Saturday.

The bus was carrying 50 passengers, of mixed nationalities including Germans, Bosnians, Turks, Croats, Russians, Romanians, Ukrainians, Mongolians and one American

The bus on its way to Paris from Germany hit a central barrier near the town of Hensies, close to the French border.

Local radio said some of the victims died in the fire.

A witness said: “People were breaking and getting out of the windows.”

Hamburg-based tour operator Rainbow Tours ruled out a technical fault as the cause.

One of the two bus drivers was killed in the crash and the second injured and taken to hospital.
