Hamas pledges more suicide bombings

Hamas is preparing to launch a new wave of suicide bombings against Israelis, according to one of the group’s founding members.

At a rally in Gaza’s Jebaliya refugee camp, Abdel Aziz Rantisi appeared before thousands of followers and pledged more suicide bombings.

“Bodies of (Hamas) commandos will continue to shake and to blow up in the depth of the Zionist entity.

“Jihad (holy war) is coming,” he warned.

Hamas was founded by Mr Rantisi and five other men in December 1987.

His rare public appearance yesterday coincided with the 16th anniversary of the founding of militant Islamic group.

Separately, the head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA,) Mohamed ElBaradei urged Israel yesterday to drop nuclear arms programme or enflaming a regional arms race.

Mr ElBaradei told the Haaretz newspaper that Israel must hold talks with regional neighbours to halt the nuclear arms race in the Middle East.

Israel denies it possesses nuclear arms but defence analysts speculate the Jewish state has up to 200 sophisticated nuclear weapons.
