Man arrested in football ‘rape’ case

A 29-year-old man has been arrested in connection with allegations of rape concerning an incident at the Grosvenor House Hotel in central London.

The man attended a central London police station and is now in custody being quizzed by detectives.

Scotland Yard announced the arrest on Wednesday afternoon and revealed that the man had attended the police station voluntarily.

On Monday police made a fresh appeal for witnesses.

The arrest comes 10 days after the 17-year-old victim first made allegations of rape involving eight Premiership footballers.

The girl’s publicist Max Clifford had revealed earlier on Wednesday that the family was upset that no one had been arrested for the alleged crime.

The news comes on the same day that it emerged a Leeds United player is being questioned in conjunction with an alleged sexual assault on a 20-year-old woman on Monday night.

Forensic experts have been examining a lay-by on the A58 near Collingham.

Another man, not thought to be connected with the club is also being held and questioned.

West Yorkshire Police have been given more time to question one of the men, but have not revealed which one.

Leeds United have issued a statement pledging full support to the investigation.
