France charged with delaying EU law adoption
The European Commission has accused the French government of failing to implement the laws of the European Union.
The EC said France’s ‘lamentable’ record must be rectified.
France is charged with the violation of 220 cases of EU laws.
France is said to have bypassed laws on biotech patents, and hampered lawyers from other EU countries from working in France.
Jonathan Todd, the Commission’s spokesman, said: ‘Some member states tend to be more thick-skinned than others. The French performance is lamentable.’
Italy also appeared top on the list of law-breakers. But Greece and Belgium shared poorer records in relation to their size and economic diversity.
Britain was also in the dock. She faces 121 open infringement cases.
